Scanning & Probing
Scanning & Probing is a method of finding objects, ships and hidden sites in space. Every ship in Eve has an On-Board System Scanner that can be used to search for objects not found on the Overview. Every ship in Eve with the exception of shuttles and freighters can fit a Scan Probe Launcher module to launch probes. Probes greatly increase both the number of types of objects that can be detected and the range at which they can be scanned.
On-board System Scanner
The on-board scanner can be used to find Cosmic Anomalies, which are combat, data or relic sites.Using probes you must scann the signature t0 100% (warpable) then you go at the specific location and finish the site. After the site is done it will disappear from the system.
Scan Equipment
Not very much to say here....you just need a Probe Launcher, and some Probes. There are two Probe launcher out there : Expanded Probe Launcher and Core Probe Launcher the only difference is that the first one can use Combat probes too.The best for exploration launchers are the faction ones:Sisters Core Probe Launcher and Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher.Faction probes are a good thing to have too.
To have better results you can use hardwirings that give bonuses to different attributes of scan probes : Slot 6 Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Pinpointing AP-602 — 2% reduction to scan deviation Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Pinpointing AP-606 — 6% reduction to scan deviation Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Pinpointing AP-610 — 10% reduction to scan deviation Slot 7 Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Acquisition AQ-702 — 2% reduction to scan duration Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Acquisition AQ-706 — 6% reduction to scan duration Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Acquisition AQ-710 — 10% reduction to scan duration Slot 8 Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Rangefinding AR-802 — 2% bonus to scan strength Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Rangefinding AR-806 — 6% bonus to scan strength Poteque 'Prospector' Astrometric Rangefinding AR-810 — 10% bonus to scan strength Implants: Low-grade Virtue Alpha — 1% bonus and 1.1x set bonus Low-grade Virtue Beta — 2% bonus and 1.1x set bonus Low-grade Virtue Gamma — 3% bonus and 1.1x set bonus Low-grade Virtue Delta — 4% bonus and 1.1x set bonus Low-grade Virtue Epsilon — 5% bonus and 1.1x set bonus Low-grade Virtue Omega— 1.25x set bonus Modules: Scan Pinpointing Array — Reduces the scan deviation when scanning with scan probes Scan Acquisition Array — Reduces the scan time of scan probes Scan Rangefinding Array — Increases the scan strength when scanning with scan probes Rigs: Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I — Provides a 10% increase to scan strength for 200 calibration Gravity Capacitor Upgrade II — Provides a 15% increase to scan strength for 300 calibrationHow to Scan with Probes
Open the Probe scanned window by pressing ALT+D.You will see something similar to this image:
As you can see there are 2 unknown signatures(those that are not green). Those are the signatures we are looking for,now we must scan them to 100%,we do this using 8 probes and moving them closer and closer till we have 100%.The probes must be aligned vertically and horizontally regarding to the location of the signature that you are scanning first.
There are five signal strength stages to narrowing down a target. As you click on the list of signals discovered the overview will show:
A red globe: one probe has picked up on the signal, the size of the globe shows roughly how far from the probe the signal is.
A red circle: two probes have picked up the signal. The circle indicates the overlapping part of both probes.
A red dot: three probes have picked up on the signal, and you know the exact location but the signal is still too weak to lock the warp drive on to.
A yellow dot: you are getting closer. This dot will also not move around too much anymore , unlike red dots.
A green dot: 100% signal strength, the warp drive will lock on and you can jump to the target.
